Biodegradable glitter is now a thing
Biodegradable glitter is now a thing and we couldn’t be happier
Here are some of our faves
BEAUTY CREW JUNIOR BEAUTY WRITER / JULY 02 2019
With Splendour in the Grass coming up next month, we’ve been in full festival preparation mode.
And there’s no denying that glitter is a firm favourite of basically every festival goer.
A little glitter glams up an otherwise-simple festival outfit and a careful under-eye application will tactically hide dark circles. You can even use glitter to disguise unwashed roots – and create an attention-grabbing hairstyle at the same time. The uses are endless.
But while your little vial of sparkling fun may seem innocent enough, traditional glitter is more often than not made from tiny pieces of polyethylene, which is unfortunately the same type of plastic single-use supermarket bags are made from.
And when you’re done dancing ‘til dawn, these little pieces of plastic inevitably end up being washed down the drain, wreaking havoc on our waterways and oceans when ingested by marine life or embedding themselves in sea plants.
Yeah, not good.
So naturally, we’ve been on the hunt for an environmentally-friendly option. After all, it’s 2019 and single-use plastic is a total faux pas.
And boy have we come up with the goods.
Whether you’re heading to a festival, gig or are simply after for an extra-fun look for a night out, you’ll want to check out these biodegradable glitters.
Glo Tatts Bio Glo®
This 100 per cent biodegradable, vegan and cruelty-free glitter comes neatly packaged in an eco glass jar accompanied by a bamboo application brush. The best part is that unlike traditional glitter, this clever product feels soft (rather than scratchy) on application.
Briogeo Sea Goddess Hair + Body Shimmer Mist
Natural haircare brand Briogeo has developed this vegan shimmering hair and body spray that will deliver the prettiest mist of shimmering iridescence. It’s made with ethically-sourced ultra-fine blue silver mica and we think it’s oh so pretty.
Makeup Weapons Bio-Glitter
This little pot is chock full of vegan, cruelty-free glittery goodness. It comes in seven shades and is made with a biodegradable film that comes primarily from eucalyptus trees sourced from responsibly managed plantations.
In Your Dreams Biodegradable Glitter
This eco-friendly biodegradable glitter was created by one of the OG festival beauty brands - In Your Dreams. It contains a blend of different coloured fine and chunky particles that are perfect for adding some sparkle to your face, body or hair.
Glitter Girl Unicorn Glitter
There is a myriad of eco-friendly glitter options (made from a plant-based film) available from Glitter Girl and we were hard-pressed choosing just one. But the Glitter Girl Unicorn Glitter in this gorgeous Charming Moon shade has stolen our hearts. If you’re facing the same conundrum, they have a couple of variety pack options here and here.
Sportsgirl Beauty Biodegradable Body Glitter Paste
This biodegradable glitter paste from Sportsgirl Beauty is a super convenient option for applying glitter on the go with no extra fixing product required. The highly-pigmented formula sets dry once applied and is vegan-friendly. That’s a tick, tick, tick from us!
